About Us

The Presbyterian Reformed Church was formed in 1967 and is today made up of congregations in Queensland, New South Wales, ACT, Victoria, South Australia, New Zealand, Vanuatu and Fiji.

The Presbyterian Reformed Church believes the Bible to be the inspired word of God and the only foundation for how we are to serve God and live our lives as Christians. We believe in the Triune God consisting of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, the God who created and controls the whole world according to his excellent purpose and plan. We believe that salvation is only by faith in Christ Jesus, whose perfect life and sacrificial death was sufficient to atone for sin in every person who believes in him. We believe God's promise to offer eternal life in heaven after death to all people who believe in the saving work of Christ Jesus and the requirement of eternal judgement in hell after death for all who reject Christ.

What we believe directs all activities in our Church. It is our desire to worship God with all our hearts and to study His word and apply it to our lives without compromise.

Our church is governed in the Presbyterian form, where a council of elected elders from each congregation meet bi-annually to discuss and judge the denomination's beliefs and activities in various areas. Through this form of organisation we seek to maintain the Biblical integrity of the denomination.

As a denomination our activities include:

  • regular worship services (see Congregations page),
  • Sunday School classes for primary school children,
  • youth fellowship studies and activities for teens and young people,
  • missionary outreach in Australia and overseas
  • publishing ministry through Covenanter Press
  • ministry training through John Knox Theological College
  • actively involved in missions work and Bible translation in Australia and Overseas

We are "reformed" because we believe that the theology commonly known as the Reformed Faith (or the Doctrines of Grace) is a faithful understanding of Scripture. This can be summarised in the five points below:

Total Depravity All men are affected by sin in all parts of their nature.
Rom 3:11 "There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God."
Unconditional Election As a sovereign God, He has chosen to save certain sinners. This is His own choice and not based on anything that the sinner can do. (Nevertheless all people are still responsible to repent and believe the Gospel.)
John 15:16 "You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you ...."
Limited Atonement Christ's death atoned for the sins of those whom God has elected to salvation.
John 10:15 "As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep."
Irresistible Grace When God's elect hear the Gospel, the Holy Spirit will irresistibly make them willing and able to believe.
John 6:37 "All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out."
Perseverance Those truly repenting of their sins and trusting in Christ's atoning death will be always kept in the faith by the power of God.
1 Pet 1:4,5 " .... to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
